outta luck furniture
Keaton (b. 1997, Illinois) is a designer and maker based in the greater Baltimore area, creating contemporary furniture and housewares using traditional chairmaking and green woodworking techniques.
Approach
While studying materials engineering, Keaton found furniture making as an outlet to express his creativity, solve design problems, and develop the skills to bring ideas to reality. The quiet work of shaping every component of a project by hand became a physical, mental, and spiritual practice. Influenced by the styles and forms of furniture of necessity, folk art, and the natural world, his pieces reflect a dialogue between maker and material, balancing precision and spontaneity while allowing the material to shape the outcome.
Keaton is best known for his seating furniture. He studied traditional chairmaking under several contemporary chairmakers, including George Sawyer, Greg Pennington, and Andy Glenn, whose mentorship helped deepen his love for handcraft and its continued evolution while providing him with the foundation to develop expressive and striking chair designs.
Outta Luck Furniture is Keaton’s studio, born from years of consistent practice and dedication to a craft he’s simply compelled to pursue. Through his practice, he hopes to create objects that do more than take up space; they enrich daily life and connect us to the hands that shaped them.
