The studio was born in 2019 out of St Paul, Minnesota. established to create hand made objects focused on honoring the history of folk craft of the Upper Midwest.

Max Mcinniss is Lead and only designer for Mothership studio and president for life.

Max has focused the studio on the beauty of natural material, the human touch, and a way of living with objects that feel personable. The studio goal is to honour the human in making. There is a strong history of folk craft in the Upper Midwest, things made impromptu on peoples’ land. Something that wasn’t bought at a box store. People who have moved out to the middle of the country to live whatever life they choose. There are these massive monuments that dot these small towns and little moments of human intervention in a massive swath of industrialization. That beautiful impulse is what the studio wants to chase after.
