Lawrence’s first experience in a wood shop happened in middle school. His first project was a wooden bear, which is the catalyst for the brand’s logo. To this day, Lawrence still has his wooden bear, and keeps it on his mantle as a reminder of his passion on becoming a maker. Over time, he has had diverse career interests, but has never lost his passion for creating quality goods from scratch.

Since 2011, Lawrence has been sharpening his skills at different maker spaces around the Baltimore, MD area. He took on small projects by making specialty pieces as gifts for friends and family.

In 2017, Lawrence started Heavy Paper Company as a full time commitment to his craft, by taking on commission work from private business clients.
