A woman stands in a workshop or studio, leaning against a wall with her arms behind her back. She is wearing a black sleeveless top and dark pants. The workspace contains various woodworking tools and pieces of wood, with a curved stone slab table in the foreground, and a ladder, buckets, and partially built wooden structures in the background. The setting has a rustic, creative atmosphere.

CAROLINE KABLE

American artist based in New York City. Her recent work surrounds the narrative of her traumatic brain injury in 2022.

Approach

Over the course of her recovery she began writing. The process of writing prose and poetry has become complimentary to her love of making as words are engraved, etched, burnt or hammered into some of her pieces, which experiment with material and form. With a background in metal fabrication and inspired by a childhood spent in rural Maryland, her work intuitively combines varieties of stone, metal, wood and text. The inclusion of text ingrains a moment of time into the surfaces of her work, and invites the viewer into the artist's story, commemorating experiences during a long journey of pain, beauty and hope.
