Common misconceptions about dentists

The first thing that comes to our minds when we are asked to visit a dentist or when we hear about dentists is someone holding equipments in his hand and trying to drill or pull out teeth and the patient moaning in agony.

This is not conscious all these thoughts cross our minds automatically and it is involuntary. It is because of this mind set that it becomes even more difficult to go and visit dentists on a regular basis. The impression about dentists is that they are sadistic and evil and painful. This is the main reason why most of the people avoid appointments with their dentists or cancel them to save themselves from the horror.

It is because of this nature of postponing or canceling appointments a minor dental problem aggravates and leads to a major problem and leads to even more painful and costly dental procedure. It is important that you go to a dentist as soon as detect a dental problem before it becomes worse and unbearable. The actual picture of the dentists that has been portrayed and the actual reality is different it is just a myth. Dentists are not sadistic they are just doing their job of treating. The pain caused because of these procedures is bearable than the unbearable pain that you might experience if not treated on time. This pain can be considered as a future investment to avert the immense pain caused later.

If you go to a dentist with a rotten tooth the then the dentist will advice you to extract the tooth and will go ahead with the extraction with your permission. This procedure might cause some pain but the dentists give you the necessary pain killers to minimize the pain after the procedure. You might experience bearable pain after the procedure which will give you a reason to hate dentists, but you think practically the dentists has helped you get rid of unbearable pain that you might have experienced in the long run if you did not take the necessary action.

Dentists don't enjoy giving you pain of any sort they in fact help you reduce your pain to a great extent. After any procedure a dentist is usually happy and relieved not because he has given you pain but because he has completed the procedure successfully and has solved your dental problem successfully. During this procedure there could have been many instances where things could have gone horribly wrong which cannot be rectified. You can imagine the pain and agony that the dentists relieve you from. Keep in mind that the doctor has relieved you from unbearable pain that you might have faced if at all you did not take the necessary action. You can imagine the problems that you would have faced in the long run if you did not bother about the diseased tooth.

The final conclusion is that the myth that people believe that dentists are sadist professionals is not at all true just because the procedures involved cause pain but save you from unbearable pain in the future does not make dentists sadist.
